Clinic NAD

An orbital map of the NAD+ literature — the central redox coenzyme at the core, its precursors (NMN, NR, niacin), pathways and consuming enzymes drawn as independent orbits, with what the human trials actually measured surfaced first.

NAD+ / AMOUNTS STUDIED

Which NAD+ amounts were given in studies?

These amounts describe past studies. They aren’t directions for your care.

Are these NAD+ amounts care instructions?

No, these figures only report what studies tested. The page says who received each form and how. Most human work tested NMN or NR pills. Swallowed NAD+ does not cross the gut well [8]. Animal studies tied some amounts to body weight. Human studies gave the same set amount each day.

Which NAD+ pill and drip amounts were tested?

Each form had its own study amounts [3][4]. NMN: Human trials gave 250-900 mg/day by mouth. The amount repeated most was 250 mg/day [1]. Other work reached 1200 mg/day. NR: Human studies often gave 250-1000 mg/day by mouth [4]. A Parkinson's safety study reached 3000 mg/day. IV NAD+: Clinic reports list about 250-1000 mg per visit. One vein study gave 3 micromoles per minute, a count of tiny chemical pieces rather than weight in milligrams, for 6 hours. Other vitamin: A skin-cancer study tested one vitamin related to niacin, called nicotinamide, at 500 mg twice daily.

These figures record study plans. They don’t set a personal amount.

How long did each NAD+ form stay in blood?

IV drips and pills stayed in blood for different times. In one small IV study, almost none remained after ~2 hours [9]. NMN and NR pills raised blood NAD+ over several days. The rise lasted during studies of 8-12 weeks [3][4]. One NR study found rises of +22%, +51%, and +142%. The groups received 100, 300, and 1000 mg/day. Those rises lasted through the 8-week study [4].

The form changes the answer. IV NAD+ fell within hours. Pill levels stayed higher while the daily study continued.

Which NAD+ forms have human study support?

Four ways of giving NAD+ have appeared in studies [9]. Most human work tested swallowed NMN, NR, or a vitamin related to niacin. A few small studies tested NAD+ through a vein. Shots into muscle or under skin have even less study work. Sellers also offer mouth sprays, nose sprays, creams, and patches.

Pills have the strongest human record. The other forms have much less proof.

Have NAD+ patches raised blood levels?

Not yet; patches and sprays are sold, but good studies are scarce [9]. Nearly all useful human studies tested NMN or NR pills. No study cited here found that a NAD+ patch raises blood levels. No cited patch study found any health gain.

Which side effects came with each NAD+ form?

Side effects change with the form and bottle quality. NMN at 250-900 mg/day and NR at 100-1000 mg/day caused no more trouble than placebo, a look-alike pill with no NMN or NR. Those trials lasted 8-12 weeks. A Parkinson's safety study tested NR at 3000 mg/day [3][4]. NR did not cause flushing or raise the bad kind of cholesterol [4].

When an IV drip runs too fast, it may cause flushing, nausea, chest pain, or belly pain. Slowing the drip often eased those problems. The FDA gave one pharmacy-mixed NAD+ shot its most serious recall, Class I. Tests found harmful waste from bacteria. Heat and damp air can harm NAD+ and NMN. Mixed shots need cold, dark storage. Doctors warn that NAD+ may pose a special risk for people with cancer [13]. Only a cancer doctor can weigh that risk for one person.
